The Kansas City Chiefs continue to surge in the AFC. On Monday night, they notched their third straight win, defeating the Washington Commanders 28-7 to improve to 5-3 on the season. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the effort with 299 passing yards and three second-half touchdowns, bouncing back strongly after a shaky start that included two interceptions.

The Chiefs’ offensive rhythm returned in the second half, highlighted by the continued brilliance of veteran tight end Travis Kelce, who turned in his best performance of the season. Kelce recorded a season-high 99 receiving yards on six catches, including a key touchdown that helped Kansas City pull away. His connection with Mahomes was on full display, converting crucial third downs and breaking through coverage with sharp route-running and physical play.

One of the standout moments came in the third quarter, when Kelce broke free on a long reception and reached a top speed of 19.02 mph, his fastest play of the season. The speed mark was notable, as the last time Kelce reached that range was in Super Bowl 57, when he hit 19.68 mph – more than two years ago.

The Chiefs shared the moment on social media Thursday, posting a mic’d-up clip of Kelce and fellow Chiefs teammates celebrating the play

“still has wheels ,” the Chiefs captioned the post on X.

While his speed has dipped slightly with age, Monday’s burst was a reminder that he can still move at an elite level.

Beyond the speed and highlight plays, Kelce also reached a major milestone. His touchdown against Washington marked his 83rd regular-season score, tying Priest Holmes for the most in franchise history. It also represented his 100th career touchdown, including the playoffs, further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history.

The Chiefs will look to maintain their impressive form when they face the Buffalo Bills this Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS, as Kansas City aims for a fourth straight victory behind its resurgent offense and an ageless star still proving he’s got plenty left in the tank.
