Chiefs Make WR Decision After Rashee Rice Update

The Kansas City Chiefs got back one of their top weapons in wide receiver Rashee Rice this past Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

Unfortunately, they still came up short, blowing the lead late in the fourth quarter and dropping their second straight game. Kansas City now owns a 5-2 record on the year, and they no longer hold possession of first place in the AFC West.

Still, it was encouraging to see the connection between Rice and quarterback Patrick Mahomes back in action. Rice hauled in seven catches on eight targets for 53 yards and he also found the end zone in his return.

Rice missed two games due to his right hamstring strain, although his absence was basically four games because he suffered the setback in the first quarter of Kansas City’s Week 4 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Still, the Chiefs are being cautious with Rice moving forward, and when the team returned to practice on Wednesday, he was only able to log a limited practice.

What was most concerning is that it was not just his hamstring that bothered him, it was also his knee. Still, the fact that he practiced at all is a good sign and his status is not in doubt for this upcoming Sunday.

Regardless, the Chiefs are still looking to add depth and improve around the margins and they did so shortly after practice.

The team decided to work out a bunch of wide receivers and settled on adding Jacob De Jesus to the practice squad, per Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.

De Jesus was a part of the team this offseason and in training camp so he is familiar with the organization. He was signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 NFL Draft so he has no NFL experience.

De Jesus has the ability to return punts which is a big reason he is back, but he did also total over 1,000 receiving yards as a slot receiver in his final collegiate season so he also provides depth for the wide receiving unit.
