The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to come back from what was a very uncharacteristic year for the team. In 2025, the Chiefs went 6-11 and didn't make the playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era. Plus, to pour salt on the wound, Mahomes tore the ACL and LCL in his knee during the team's Dec. 14 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
So, things didn't go great for the Chiefs last season. But, now it's time to look ahead. They have to help Mahomes in every way that they can next season, because a quarterback is only as good as the line he has with him.
Fortunately for the Chiefs, the team made a move during the NFL draft that may emerge as one of their best. It's a move that should help Mahomes and give him more options on the field.
In a piece published on Sunday, June 21, for Bleacher Report, Brent Sobleski lays out the case that rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen is poised to wow this season.
"For too long, the Chiefs have relied almost solely on tight end Travis Kelce to work the middle of the field with the type of routes that are necessary to move the chains," he states in the piece. "Allen should quickly grow into another option as quarterback Patrick Mahomes gains confidence in the rookie's ability."
Allen has a unique opportunity for a third-rounder. Between the Rashee Rice drama and Tyquan Thornton having a lackluster season, Allen has a real chance to make a difference on this team and get playing time.
