Chiefs missed perfect opportunity at trade deadline

Following a heartbreaking 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, it seemed that the Kansas City Chiefs were obliged to make some moves ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.

They have lost four games this season, which is tied for the most of any season in the Patrick Mahomes era, and they still have a challenging schedule ahead of them. With the New York Jets going through a fire sale at the deadline, the Chiefs had the perfect opportunity to solve some of their woes. That's why, after watching them stay put, it feels like they really dropped the ball this time.

Chiefs should've traded for Breece Hall, Jermaine Johnson

For weeks, reports stated that the Chiefs were looking for help on the defensive line. They don't have a bona fide pass-rusher opposite George Karlaftis, which is why Jets EDGE Jermaine Johnson looked like a tailor-made target for them.

He's a talented and athletic headhunter who could've bolstered defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's unit. Now, he won't do much to help the 1-7 Jets.

The Chiefs could've also used some punch in their running game, especially with Isiah Pacheco (knee) dealing with yet another injury. The Jets reportedly wanted a third-round pick for Breece Hall, who also sparked rumors with a cryptic tweet amid his team's fire sale, but to no avail.

Kansas City averages the 12th-most rushing yards per game (121.2), but Mahomes is responsible for 31.7 of those. They don't have a true workhorse running back, and Hall, who's waiting for a contract extension, could've solved those issues for years to come.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach is usually on point with his moves. But this time, the lack of trades might come back to haunt this team when it matters the most.
