According to the Athletic’s Jonathan Jones, the Chiefs aren’t in a big hurry to get WR Tyreek Hill locked up to a contract.
Jones adds no one has ruled out a reunion between the two sides at this point but in the meantime he’d expect Kansas City to lean more on its younger receivers as they work through injuries to the group.
There’s a lot to work out with Hill and any team that’s interested, although the Chiefs are the only specific team to be named to this point. Jones notes the health of Hill’s knee, the potential for a suspension after being found partially liable in a civil lawsuit for domestic abuse by his ex-wife and his contract demands are all impediments to a deal.
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who has been stumping for him in the media the last couple of months, said that the situation with Hill remains fluid.
“I think it’s very fluid,” Rosenhaus told Josh Moser of WVSN. “I think a deal could happen any time. We are looking for the right situation, the right contract, the right team, the right fit, the right approach from a medical standpoint. Tyreek’s feeling really good health-wise. I did say last week I thought a deal could happen at any time. But in the NFL it really is day-to-day. So we are still working to find the right situation.”
Hill, 32, is a former fifth-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2016. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $2.58 million contract in 2019 when the Chiefs signed him to a new three-year, $54 million extension that included $35.2 million guaranteed.
The Chiefs traded Hill to the Dolphins during the 2022 offseason. From there, Hill signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the Dolphins, which included $72.2 million in guaranteed money.
He was due base salaries of $19.665 million and $21.835 million over his next two seasons when he agreed to a reworked three-year, $90 million contract with $65 million in guarantees heading into the 2024 season. Miami then released Hill in February 2026 as he was recovering from a significant leg injury.
In 2025, Hill appeared in four games for the Dolphins and caught 21 passes on 29 targets for 265 yards and one touchdown.
