The Kansas City Chiefs are set to face off against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Chiefs might have an ace up their sleeve on offense that they just tipped off moments before kickoff.
The Athletic's Jesse Newell was down on the field when the Chiefs' wide receivers took the field for pre-game warmups. He noticed No. 24 running out of the tunnel with the position group. No, Skyy Moore didn't magically get traded back to the team. That's rookie RB Brashard Smith, who switched his jersey number to 24 after Moore was traded to the San Francisco 49ers.

What gives? Smith is listed on the unofficial depth chart as a running back, but we know that he's much more than that. He'll also play kick returner for Kansas City, but could wide receiver also be on the menu? The seventh-round draft pick seems poised for more than simply a backup running back role in his first NFL action.
Smith has been cross-training with the wide receivers in Kansas City, and I'm told this has become even more prevalent recently after WR Rashee Rice was officially suspended. We already know that he offers a ton as a receiver out of the backfield, and the Chiefs did motion him out wide at times during training camp. Of course, Smith is a former college wide receiver at the University of Miami, and converted to running back at SMU last season. He spent a significant portion of the offseason learning the ropes at running back, but the coaching staff in Kansas City recognizes that his value lies in his ability as a pass catcher. The more versatile you can be and the more you can accomplish, the better off you will be in the NFL, and that could hold for No. 24.
