The Kansas City Chiefs' offense can't seem to catch a break.
With all the injury concerns surrounding Xavier Worthy (shoulder), Rashee Rice (knee) and Patrick Mahomes (knee), the team is now also keeping an eye on Josh Simmons.
The second-year left tackle is reportedly dealing with a back injury, and with just a couple of weeks before the season opener, that's something to keep an eye on.
According to head coach Andy Reid, Simmons is getting his back checked out.
“Just getting his back checked out,” Reid said (h/t Joshua Schulman). “That’s the main thing. I mean, he was doing good when he was in there, [but] he’s got the back. Like any other injury, we’ve got to make sure and see if it’s right or what’s wrong with it.”
While there's still time to get back to full strength, Simmons has already missed time since entering the league as a first-round pick last season.
He left the team midway through the season to attend to an undisclosed family matter before suffering a season-ending wrist injury late in the campaign.
The Chiefs parted ways with veteran right tackle Jawaan Taylor this offseason, and blindside protection has been a recurrent issue in the Patrick Mahomes era.
They don't have much depth in the trenches, and with Mahomes coming back from the first major injury of his career, keeping him out of harm's way will be even more crucial than ever.
Given that Mahomes' mobility might be compromised at first, Simmons will play an even bigger role in 2026.
