Just under a year ago, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made headlines with his speech at Benedictine College's graduation ceremony where encouraged women to be homemakers.
“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” Butker said. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
His comments caused a stir on social media, but Butker received support from his teammates, including star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
"I've known him for seven years. I judge him by the character he shows every day and that's a good person," Mahomes said at the time. "There’s comments I didn’t necessarily agree with…there’s certain values that people emphasize more than others. We're not always going to agree. He said certain things I don't agree with. I know what kind of person he is, and I’m going to make sure I look at that first.”
Ever since his comments, Butker's political leanings haven't been front and center - until today.
On Thursday afternoon Butker made an appearance at the White House where he was photographed with President Donald Trump in a post shared by communications assistant Margo Martin.

The photo received plenty of interaction on social media, including from a few Philadelphia Eagles fans.
"If he’s the GOAT then why did they lose to the Eagles?" one fan joked.
"Your "GOAT of kicking" was the 26th-best kicker in the NFL last season according to Pro Football Focus," offered another.
"This isn’t Adam Vinatieri," joked a third.
Butker finished the 2024 NFL season with the second-lowest field goal percentage of his career, connecting on 21-of-25 field goals.
