Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia nearly missed out on Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. The 22-year-old headed into the Week 12 matchup with a questionable tag after suffering a head injury in Kansas City’s 22-19 loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday, but cleared the concussion protocol in time for the Colts game.

Suamataia has started every game for the Chiefs this season, and his streak continued on Sunday against Indianapolis. The second-year left guard provided excellent pass protection for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who led Kansas City to a hard-fought 23-20 overtime victory with 29-of-46 completed passes for 352 yards.

Suamataia, however, is now awaiting a punishment decision from the NFL after an incident during the game.

Suamataia is having a big year with the Chiefs. After starting just two games as a rookie last season, the former BYU Cougars star has made the starting left guard position his own in 2025. He’s been an integral part of Kansas City’s offensive line, which is why his availability for Sunday’s contest was a significant boost for Mahomes and Co.

Suamataia has not been fined in his two seasons in the NFL. However, this could change after the league reviews his incident in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. Suamataia was flagged for a blindside block against Colts Pro Bowl cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr., who, incidentally, helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl in 2020.

According to the NFL rulebook, a blindside block "is a foul if a player initiates a block when his path is toward or parallel to his own end line and makes forcible contact to his opponent with his helmet, forearm, or shoulder."

The NFL Officiating Department will review the incident and decide whether Suamataia will be fined. A first offense will carry a penalty of $17,389, while a second offense will result in a fine of $23,186. This will potentially be Suamataia’s first offense, and he will need to wait for the league's official gameday accountability report to learn his fate.

The Chiefs improved to 6-5 after Sunday’s crucial win over the Colts. They will be back in action on Thursday for a highly anticipated Thanksgiving showdown against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.
