Chiefs' stunning playoff elimination snapped six incredible streaks

For the first time since Patrick Mahomes became a starter, the Kansas City Chiefs won't be in the AFC Championship Game. They won't even be in the playoffs.

This might be the end of the dynasty, at least as currently constructed, and they will no longer be the team to beat in pro football. It was an incredible run by Andy Reid's team, and to put it into perspective, CBS Sports pointed out the six major streaks snapped with the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Chiefs' run was one of the most dominant in NFL history

Before Sunday, the Chiefs had the third-most consecutive 10-win seasons (10), trailing only the 2003-19 New England Patriots and 1983-98 San Francisco 49ers. They had the second-most consecutive division titles (nine), once again trailing the 2009-19 Patriots (11).

The Chiefs had the second-most consecutive playoff appearances (10) behind those same Patriots (11). On top of that, they had the second-most consecutive seasons with a playoff win (seven), trailing the 2011-18 Patriots (eight).

Once again, Andy Reid's team ranked second with the second-most consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances (seven), behind Tom Brady's Patriots from 2011-18 (eight). Last but not least, the loss to the Chargers snapped the second-longest streak of consecutive Super Bowl appearances (three), trailing only the 1990-93 Buffalo Bills (four).

Ironically, as much as these streaks were a testament to this team's dominance, they also go to show just how incredible a run Brady and Bill Belichick had. Mahomes still has plenty of football left to play, and this shouldn't stain his nearly flawless legacy. Now, it'll be all about how he and his team bounce back from this heartbreak.
