The Kansas City Chiefs didn't just lose to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, they lost a key role player to injury.
Despite throwing for 261 yards and four touchdowns, Patrick Mahomes was unable to carry the Chiefs to victory. To be fair, he was under constant duress all game and was sacked three times. The main issue was Kansas City's defense couldn't slow down CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Dak Prescott.
During this Thursday's game, Chiefs offensive tackle Josh Simmons had to leave early due to a wrist injury. Unfortunately for the reigning AFC champions, the diagnosis isn't great.
"Chiefs LT Josh Simmons, who impressed against the Cowboys before exiting with an injury, suffered a dislocated and fractured wrist, sources say. He left the stadium in a cast and is out indefinitely," Rapoport said Thursday night. "MRI tomorrow, then he’ll seek opinions on treatment options."
On Friday morning, Rapoport announced that Simmons is likely heading to injured reserve.
As of this Friday, the Chiefs have a 46% chance of making the playoffs. Even if they win their final five games, they'll only have a 52% chance of getting in.
The Chiefs are currently behind the Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card race. They also trail the Houston Texans, but they'll get a chance to leapfrog them next weekend.
“You’ve got to win every game now and hope that’s enough,” Mahomes said following Thursday's loss to Dallas. “We’re going to play a lot of good teams coming up. If we’re going to make the playoffs, we’re going to have to win them all. That’s got to be the mindset when we step into the building when we get back.”
Well, winning every game just got a bit more difficult with Simmons sidelined.
