The Kansas City Chiefs have moved on from one of their most polarizing players in recent memory, trading fourth-year wide receiver Skyy Moore to the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday along with a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

While the Chiefs gained minimal draft capital in the deal, the move was necessary. Moore's tenure in Kansas City fell well short of expectations, and fans had grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of development from the 2022 second-round selection. Aside from defensive end Breeland Speaks (2018 second round), Moore arguably stands as perhaps the biggest draft bust of the Brett Veach era.

Despite receiving ample opportunities, Moore failed to establish himself as a reliable option for the offense. Over 36 regular-season games, he managed just 43 catches for 494 yards and one touchdown. He hasn't recorded a reception in any NFL game since Week 13 of the 2023 season against Green Bay.

The 2024 season epitomized Moore's difficulties. Appearing in five games, he ran 29 routes but failed to record a single catch while dropping two of his only two targets. The team placed him on injured reserve before Week 8 due to core muscle surgery, effectively ending his season.

Despite his overall struggles, Moore delivered some memorable moments during his Chiefs tenure. In the 2022-23 AFC Championship Game again st Cincinnati, with under 40 seconds remaining, he returned a punt 29 yards to set up Kansas City just past midfield. Patrick Mahomes then drove the team into scoring position for Harrison Butker's game-winning field goal that sent the Chiefs to the Super Bowl.

Moore also contributed in Super Bowl LVII, scoring a four-yard touchdown that extended Kansas City's lead over Philadelphia from 28-27 to 35-27. Most recently, in what proved to be his final play as a Chief, Moore returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown in last Friday's preseason game against Seattle.

Though his on-field career didn't unfold as anyone hoped, Moore consistently conducted himself as a professional throughout his time in Kansas City. The organization and fans wish him success as he begins a new chapter with the 49ers.
