That wasn't exactly the hoped-for start to a new Chiefs' season. Following up an absolutely abysmal showing in the Super Bowl with a flattened effort in Week 1 has raised concerns in Chiefs Kingdom and emboldened critics on a national level.
That makes things look tenuous entering Week 2. Even the most fervent Chiefs fans are talking about the very real potential of starting 0-2, given that their scheduled opponent is the Philadelphia Eagles. That's certainly n,ot a death knell on what always turns out to be a very long season, but considering the Chiefs only lost two games one year ago—including a Week 18 non-effort against the Broncos—this is very unfamiliar terrain.
Super Bowl LIX didn't turn out so hot, so how much better can the Chiefs be expected to fare this time around? Will the Chiefs find a way to enact some measure of revenge?
Here are our predictions for Week 2 as the Eagles' visit to Arrowhead comes into view.
Christian Ainsworth (0-1)
As much as I'd love to say the Chiefs are going to bring this home, the Eagles' recent trade for Tank Bigsby (along with all the other moves they made this offseason) is going to be too much for an emaciated Chiefs offense. Eagles 27, Chiefs 20
Matt Conner (0-1)
I'm bullish on the Chiefs long-term outlook, so I'm not all that worried about where they'll stand at season's end. But it'll get worse before it gets better in this first month. Eagles 21, Chiefs 20
Bransen Gibson (0-1)
It's been a long time since I've felt less optimistic about a regular season game than this one. The Chiefs seem flat and the Eagles are flying. That's why KC will make a statement with a gritty home win to prove to the league that they are still a force to be reckoned with. Chiefs 27, Eagles 24
Braden Holocek (0-1)
The Chiefs defense is still in the learning stages in the pass rush and with the secondary. Even if the Kansas City offense has a better start, the Chiefs' defense has to prove themselves for me to buy into them winning this one, as currently constructed. Eagles 29, Chiefs 26
Scott Loring (0-1)
The Chiefs’ defensive flaws were exposed in Brazil, and it won’t get any easier in Week 2. Though my mind says the Eagles will probably beat the Chiefs, my heart reminds me of the competitive nature of KC’s captains. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce pull another rabbit out of their hats and the Chiefs avoid an 0-2 start. Chiefs 31, Eagles 27
Greg Morse (0-1)
I hate to admit it but I think the Chiefs lose this week. Unless the DBs can learn to defend the pass or contain an obviously running defense, Jalen Hurts is gonna cook. I hope they prove me wrong. Eagles 28, Chiefs 21
Charles Robinson (0-1)
This will be a massive barometer of the 2025 Chiefs ability to self motivate. After a Week 1 loss many are probably writing the Chiefs off in this one, but hope springs eternal and revenge is a dish best served cold, as in 0-1 cold. Chiefs 33, Eagles 31
Lucas Strozinsky (0-1)
I'm not one of those guys who thinks the season is over, but the Chiefs have a lot of problems to address if they want to make another deep playoff run. I doubt they'll solve those issues before Week 2. Eagles 26, Chiefs 23
