Veteran Wide Receiver Chris Conley announced his retirement from the National Football League on Saturday morning. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs out of the University of Georgia.
Conley’s career included stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers. He carved out a solid role across his 10-year career and contributed on special teams. He finished with 226 receptions, 2,998 receiving yards, and 15 receiving touchdowns in his career. The wide receiver posted a lengthy statement to his Instagram explaining the rationale for his retirement from the NFL. Conley said that it was always his dream to play 10 years in the NFL. He accomplished it. “The past 10 years have been a dream. Getting the opportunity to play in the league was an honor and whether it was catching touchdowns or blocking for them i truly gave it my all,” the statement went on to say.
After fulfilling his NFL dream, he will attend film school at his alma mater, the University of Georgia. He is ready to embark on this new challenge in his life. At only 32, Conley has decades of life left to live.
Conley’s retirement announcement underscored something too many people are afraid of. Change. The wide receiver is jumping into a completely different arena, not afraid to chase his dreams. Never letting go of one’s dreams is a great message for all to follow.
