Former Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan is without a job, and New England could use some depth at wideout.
With only Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu and Damiere Byrd being the only New England receivers with more than one year of NFL experience, a Hogan return could be on the table.
Devin McCourty wants to see it happen, and he mentioned that things could work out with a new quarterback under center.
"I think it went so well the first time ... You heard it here first, man: Chris Hogan back to New England," McCourty said on the "Double Coverage" podcast. "We get him back there, we've got 7-Eleven, always open. We’ve got a new quarterback, let’s bring an old target back."
Patriots reunions have worked in the past, and that's exactly what McCourty alluded to next.
"That’s what we do in New England: LeGarrette (Blount) came back, next thing you know, 18 touchdowns (in 2016)," McCourty said. "That’s what happens in New England. Deion Branch came back in 2010, touchdowns everywhere. So New England, get a head start. Start your articles now. It’s 8:47. Devin has said it.”
Hogan didn't shut the door on the possibility either -- he actually thinks it's something Bill Belichick would consider.
"Three years, three Super Bowls, I'm just saying," Hogan told McCourty. "Maybe Bill (Belichick) is tuned into this right now."
Believe it or not, this is a more realistic addition than some may realize. The 32-year-old wideout likely will take any job right now after recording just eight receptions for 67 yards last season with the Carolina Panthers. He also suffered a knee injury and missed eight weeks last season.
Hogan was under contract last season for $1.2 million, so Belichick very well could bring in the low-cost receiver.
