Cincinnati Bengals OTAs: Joe Burrow falls victim to leaping interception by teammate who needs all the highlights he can create

The second and final week of OTAs for the Cincinnati Bengals are well underway, and while quarterback Joe Burrow is throwing dimes, he'd like to have at least one throw back.

Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt got the best of him Tuesday afternoon with an impressive leaping interception on a pass intended for tight end Mike Gesicki.

As seen in the pre-snap phase of the rep, Gesicki motioned to the boundary side of the formation and Taylor-Britt followed him in coverage, putting him in the slot at the snap of the snap. Taylor-Britt met Gesicki at the top of the out route and accelerated in his recovery to the sideline.

It wasn't the best throw from Burrow, but better to make these mistakes in the spring than the fall.

Burrow's error was Taylor-Britt's highlight and the 25-year old showed his fire after the play as he celebrated with fellow defensive backs Jordan Battle (27) and Josh Newton (28). Wide receiver Tee Higgins (5) contested Taylor-Britt was out of bounds, but the fourth-year CB appeared to get his elbow inbounds while tumbling to the sideline.

Of the three players involved in the play, Taylor-Britt is the one with the most to prove this offseason. Burrow and Gesicki have been paid and are established starters for years to come. Taylor-Britt, a former second-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft, was benched twice last season and is entering a contract year.

The faces haven't changed at the position. Taylor-Britt's competition for the starting gig he held for most of the last three years are DJ Turner II, Josh Newton, and Dax Hill once the latter returns from his torn ACL. The scheme may be different under new defensive coordinator Al Golden, and that may benefit guys like Taylor-Britt, but plays still need to be made for good impressions to form.

So far, so great for CTB.
