Cincinnati Bengals Star Tee Higgins Receives Huge Contract Advice From Former Teammate
Kareem Elgazzar/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Cincinnati Bengals are entering the 2024 NFL season with a major contract situation going on with star wide receiver Tee Higgins. While they used the franchise tag on Higgins, he has yet to sign the tender and is not happy with how things currently stand. More than likely, this will be his last season with the franchise.

While the two sides have had discussions about an extension, it seems unlikely that the Bengals are going to raise their offer to match what Higgins wants.

If that does stay being the case, Higgins will play the 2024 season on the franchise tag. After the year, things will get even more interesting.

One former Cincinnati Bengals’ teammate spoke out and gave some advice to Higgins as he goes through this contract drama.

Cincinnati Bengals’ Star Tee Higgins Receives Huge Contract Advice From Former Teammate

Jessie Bates, who now plays for the Atlanta Falcons, went through his own contract drama while with the Cincinnati Bengals. He spoke out and sent a message of advice to Higgins.

“I’ve been through that process through the franchise tag, and I let it weigh on me a little bit more than I should have and it affected my play and how I was living my day-to-day life. My thing for Tee is just, I mean, work on your craft, it don’t matter. If this is the contract year, I say it every time: Every year is a contract year. You should go out there and ball out and train like this is one of your last years to play.”

That advice is excellent advice. Every player should view every single season as a contract year. Higgins should view the 2024 season as business as usual.

During the 2023 season, Higgins had a bit of a down year. He played in just 12 games, catching 42 passes for 656 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers are still solid, but it didn’t improve his chances of getting a big extension.

Back in 2022, Higgins racked up 74 receptions for 1,029 yards and seven touchdowns. That season was closer to what should be expected from him in 2024. He’s a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver on quite a few other teams.

Higgins isn’t the only player who has been unhappy with his current situation with the Cincinnati Bengals. Star pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson also requested a trade this offseason.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of Tee Higgins’ situation with the Bengals. Will the two sides be able to overcome their differences and get a new deal done? We’ll just have to wait and see.
