On Friday night, NFL fans held their breath as Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris was taken off the field in an ambulance.
Norris suffered a scary-looking injury as he was trying to tackle Atlanta Falcons running back Nathan Carter. It almost seemed like his head snapped back. As you'd imagine, players on both teams were shaken up by the sight of Norris laying down on the ground for several minutes.
With that said, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris thought it'd be best to let the clock run out in the fourth quarter.
"Just Dan and myself, respect for his family, Morice Norris, it was that simple," Morris told reporters, via Pro Football Talk. "There’s not a lot of times that happens. I can’t sit here and tell you I’ve been through a lot of those or seen a lot of those. I don’t think any of us have. That was the moment decision and it was the right thing to do for our football team and the Lions’ football team with what happened tonight."
Morris also said that he didn't even think about whether or not the NFL would approve of the Falcons and Lions calling their game off.
"I don’t know. That wasn’t in my thought right now. The thought process for both of us was about Morice Norris and his family. That’s what it’s all about."
Lions head coach Dan Campbell showed Morris some love during his postgame press conference, calling him a "class act."
All that truly matters is that Norris is OK. Clearly, both head coaches on Friday night understood that.
Speaking of Norris' health, Campbell said the second-year defensive back is breathing and has some movement in his extremities.
"He's breathing, he's talking...he's got some movement, and now, they're running some tests," Campbell said.
We're wishing Norris a full and speedy recovery.
