Micah Parsons shocked the NFL world this Friday when he announced that he no longer wants to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys could've paid Parsons at any point over the past year, but they've decided to take a slow approach to that situation. To make matters worse, the front office has reportedly negotiated an extension without the All-Pro pass rusher's agent present. After taking time to think things over, Parsons came to the conclusion that he no longer wants to be in Dallas.
"Yes I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboys and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America's team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here," Parsons wrote in a statement shared on social media.
"I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me."
Parsons finished his statement by saying he let Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones know that he wants out.
As of now, the Cowboys haven't said if they're willing to deal Parsons.
ESPN's Adam Schefter hinted that it'll cost an awful lot to acquire Parsons from the Cowboys. He reminded fans about the Khalil Mack trade in 2018. The Bears gave up two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick to acquire Mack, a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick from the Raiders.
Although the asking price for Parsons is probably absurd, a clear suitor has emerged for his services.
NFL insider Benjamin Allbright reported that Parsons wants to reunite with Dan Quinn. That would make the Washington Commanders an intriguing landing spot for him. It's also worth noting they could use some help in the front seven.
The thought of Parsons joining an NFC East rival is truly fascinating, but the odds of that happening are probably low.
Since entering the league in 2021, Parsons has racked up 256 tackles, 112 QB hits and 52.5 sacks. If the Cowboys trade him, they won't be able to replace that production this year.
Only time will tell if Jerry Jones receives an offer too good to pass up.
