The Cleveland Browns made a pair of roster adjustments on Wednesday, promoting tight end Carsen Ryan from the practice squad to the active roster while signing running back Hassan Haskins to fill the practice squad opening created by Ryan’s elevation, the team announced.
Ryan, a 23-year-old rookie, has taken a circuitous path to the NFL. He began his college career at UCLA, where he spent two seasons before transferring to Utah for the 2024 campaign.
After a single year with the Utes, he moved again, finishing his eligibility at BYU.
There he emerged as a productive receiving threat, recording 45 catches for 620 yards and three touchdowns in his final season.
The Browns selected him with the 248th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft and signed him to a four-year rookie contract worth roughly $4.8 million that included a signing bonus of about $433,000.
Through the first half of his rookie year, Ryan has appeared in seven games for Cleveland.
His contributions have come almost entirely on special teams, where he has logged more than 80 snaps while seeing only a pair of snaps on offense. He has registered one tackle.
At 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, he offers size and versatility as a backup behind the team’s primary tight ends, and his promotion gives the Browns another body capable of contributing on special teams while remaining available if injuries thin the position.
In the corresponding practice squad move, Cleveland added Hassan Haskins, a fifth-year veteran out of Michigan. The Titans drafted Haskins in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
He spent his first two seasons in Tennessee before joining the Los Angeles Chargers, where he played in 2024 and 2025.
Across 44 career games, he has carried the ball 76 times for 229 yards and two touchdowns while adding 18 receptions for 119 yards and another score. He also has experience as a kick returner.
This season he spent time on the New England Patriots’ practice squad before becoming available. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 228 pounds, Haskins provides experienced depth for a Browns backfield that has seen recent turnover.
The transactions continue a period of active roster management for Cleveland as the team prepares for its upcoming schedule.
Ryan’s return to the 53-man roster restores a familiar special-teams contributor, while Haskins supplies an additional option at running back on the developmental squad.
Both moves reflect the Browns’ ongoing efforts to balance immediate needs with longer-term depth.
