One thing the Cleveland Browns did during the 2025 NFL Draft was bolster their pathway to a stronger running game.
Cleveland selected Quinshon Judkins in the second round out of Ohio State, and they doubled down at the position by adding Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson in the fourth round.
Taking two running backs in the draft made it clear that the Browns likely won’t be bringing back veteran RB Nick Chubb. General Manager Andrew Berry all but confirmed that on Friday.
“I would say it is probably increasingly unlikely,” Berry said of the possibility of re-signing Chubb, via 92.3 The Fan. “We do have two young guys that we like. We think Jerome [Ford] plays a role.”
"I would says it's probably increasingly unlikely. I'd say maybe a return is less likely, at least in the short term, with us right now.""

Judkins and Sampson are expected to play significant roles for the Browns, and Cleveland already knows the kind of boost Jerome Ford can provide. Chubb has been everything to this franchise since 2018, but two consecutive seasons with season-ending injuries have taken a toll.
Chubb returned to action last year after suffering a major knee injury at the start of the 2023 season. The Georgia product played in eight games before fracturing his foot and averaged just 3.3 yards per carry—a career low for the fan-favorite back.
“You’re never going to rule out someone as near and dear to our hearts as Nick,” Berry added. “And I would expect him to take another step being a year removed from the knee injury.”
Chubb had a monstrous start to his career, rushing for over 1,000 yards in four of his first five seasons, and finishing just shy with 996 yards as a rookie. But the time has come for Browns fans to prepare for the possibility of seeing Chubb in another team’s uniform.
