The Cleveland Browns dropped to 0-2 to begin the 2025 NFL season after being blown out by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 action. It was a brutal loss, but one that many saw coming.
Just like last season, the Browns simply have not looked like a good football team to kick off this year. There are reasons to be optimistic about the franchise due to young talent already on the roster and future picks, but the idea that Cleveland was going to be a playoff team this season was a bit far-fetched.
More than likely, the Browns will turn into a seller before the 2025 trade deadline. They have a few pieces on the roster that other teams could have interest in acquiring.
Keeping that in mind, Cleveland has been linked to an intriguing potential trade.
Tim Crean of Pro Football Network has suggested that the Browns could consider trading running back Jerome Ford. It would be a sensible move, as Cleveland has two rookie running backs on the roster in the form of Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson.
“Now, second-round pick Quinshon Judkins is ready to go, making Ford surplus to requirements,” Crean wrote. “Ford is not a bell-cow back who can take all the carries, but he would be excellent as a second or third back to take some carries here and there on a contender.”
At this point, the Browns should be looking to add as many draft picks as possible. They’re clearly in a rebuilding process and there is no guarantee that they have found their long-term quarterback yet.
Even after drafting both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland may dip into the quarterback market in the 2026 NFL Draft. There are plenty of potential franchise quarterback options in the upcoming draft class.
Having more draft capital would give the Browns more freedom to move around in the draft. If Ford could bring in a mid to late round pick, they should jump at the opportunity.
Las season in Cleveland, Ford played in 14 games and carried the football 104 times for 565 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 37 passes for 225 yards.
