The Cleveland Browns have a new-look backfield. Sure, Jerome Ford, their leading rusher in 2024, is still in the fold, but glaringly missing from the team’s running back room is fan favorite Nick Chubb, who is also one of the best players ever to suit up for the franchise

Chubb and the Browns have gone separate ways, with the former Georgia Bulldogs running back taking his talents to the AFC South, with the Houston Texans, who signed him to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million.

Seeing Chubb leave the Browns was a tough one for the fans, and the same can be said about superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett.

Cleveland Browns’ Garrett hopes Chubb to be an RB1 again

Chubb was the face of Cleveland’s offense while Garrett remains the alpha of the team’s top unit. Having played with Chubb for several years, Garrett still wants to see Chubb flourish again, just like the running back did in the years before he suffered a season-ending injury in 2023.

“I won’t put any kind of parameters, expectations or limits on his future or what he can do as he’s broken through all the ceilings that we’ve set forth for him with the recovery from the injuries that he’s had, how substantial they’ve been and yet he’s come back, excelled and been able to play at a high level,” Garrett said, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “It’s tough enough being on the NFL roster and to come back to being the guy again and tote the rock,” he said. “He’s special and I hope continues to be that.”

Chubb taking over as the RB1 with the Texans appears to be a long shot at the moment, with Joe Mixon, who led Houston with 1,016 rushing yards in 2024, still on the team.

As for Chubb, he’ll fit in as likely the chief backup to Mixon after he rushed for 6,843 yards in seven years with the Browns.
