Coby Bryant signed with the Chicago Bears on March 12 after four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. The team quickly moved to address the hole at the safety position after other teams signed Kevin Byard III, Jaquan Brisker and Jonathan Owens in free agency.
The Bears selected former Oregon star Dillon Thieneman at No. 25 to add another safety via the 2026 NFL draft. He and Bryant will team up next season to form one of the NFL’s fastest and most versatile safety tandems. Ohio State’s Caleb Downs was widely viewed as the top player at the position in this year’s class. The Dallas Cowboys selected him at No. 11, and Chicago chose Thieneman 14 picks later.
The 6-foot defensive back showcased his speed at the scouting combine by clocking a 4.35-second 40-yard dash. He recorded 306 combined tackles and eight interceptions during his three collegiate seasons.
Bryant posted a picture on his X account after the Bears drafted Thieneman on Thursday. It was a photo of Hollywood actors Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson from the 1992 movie “White Men Can’t Jump.”
The safety added a salute emoji to his cryptic post, seemingly agreeing with the selection of the former Oregon star.

The film showcased two streetballers who hustled through different courts in California. Many consider it one of the best basketball movies of all time. Sinqua Walls and rapper Jack Harlow starred in its 2023 remake.
Based on his post, it appears that Bryant sees his upcoming partnership with Thieneman as Chicago’s version of “White Men Can’t Jump.”
Bryant played a key role for the Seahawks last season. The 2026 Super Bowl champion appeared in 18 games and recorded 76 combined tackles, four interceptions and one forced fumble. He is expected to mentor Thieneman in his rookie season while playing alongside him.
