By irritating Colin Cowherd, Cleveland Browns rookie Shedeur Sanders has officially made it as an NFL quarterback.
Cowherd expressed his frustration with Sanders on Monday afternoon, three days after the fifth-round pick impressed in a victory over the Carolina Panthers. However, Cowherd’s issue wasn’t with Sanders’ play — the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions — but instead about Sanders’ viral interaction with Cleveland radio host Tony Grossi.
Grossi, a longtime Browns beat reporter, has been publicly critical of Sanders for months. Sanders approached Grossi on Friday night and questioned his negativity, though the two laughed and seemingly amicably parted ways.
That wasn’t good enough for Cowherd, who isn’t sure why Sanders even bothered to confront Grossi.
“I do think Shedeur is a good kid,” Cowherd said. “I question his judgment and maturity. But they kind of laugh in the end. It’s fine.”
But?
“But this thing is like, Shedeur, what are you doing?” Cowherd asked. “Get out of there. I don’t want you watching Tony Grossi TikTok clips.”
Cowherd acknowledged that the issue itself wasn’t “ugly,” though it doesn’t reflect well on Sanders amid repeated concerns regarding his maturity.
“Don’t look for sympathy and support from a local radio guy,” Cowherd advised. “Watch film.”
Sanders will have another opportunity to quiet Grossi, Cowherd, and additional doubters when the Browns face the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night. It remained unclear at publication whether Sanders would start against the Eagles.
Cleveland opens its regular season against Joe Burrow and the rival Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Sept. 7.
