Colin Cowherd Predicts Winner in Chiefs–Eagles Super Bowl Rematch

The Philadelphia Eagles opened their season by grinding out a 24-20 home win over the Dallas Cowboys, leaning on Jalen Hurts’ legs in the red zone (3-for-3 on attempts) and a defense that tightened after an over-hour-long lightning delay.

The Kansas City Chiefs, meanwhile, flew back from Brazil at 0-1 after a 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, a game defined by penalties (10-71), stalled red-zone trips (1-for-3 on attempts) and an early injury to burner Xavier Worthy.

Now, the two Super Bowl LIX foes face off in a rematch of the big game this upcoming Sunday.

On a Friday episode of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," Cowherd previewed the matchup and made his prediction.

"I think it's close and low scoring but I'm going to take Philadelphia to win and cover," Cowherd said. "Listen, they led 34 (to) nothing in the third quarter against Kansas City (in the Super Bowl). They got more good players. They've won 17-of-18 games including the playoffs and if Jalen Hurts starts and finishes a game, they've won 15 straight."

"They're excellent on third down, they're excellent in the red zone and they're excellent on fourth down and that matters on the road in a close game," Cowherd added. "I think Kansas City comes out with incredible pride, plays over themselves and makes it close, but the Chiefs are 2-3 in their last five games... I think it's really low scoring, I think it's close, but I'm going to take Eagles with a late touchdown to win 28-20."

Philadelphia’s defense and ability to control the pace of play with running back Saquon Barkley make them a matchup nightmare, especially when Kansas City’s vertical weapons are limited, making this feel like a low-scoring, tight game unless Worthy’s doubtful status flips to full go.

At the time of publication, ESPN BET lists the Eagles (-120) as 1.5-point favorites on the road with a 46.5-point over/under.

Game time is 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
