Colts 2025 first round pick Tyler Warren getting left off an All-Rookie projection team ahead of the season feels disrespectful

The Indianapolis Colts needed to improve after a disaster at the position last season. Which led them to be a popular team in mock drafts ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft to select one of Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland at pick 14 for the Colts. And

Both players are great and have a promising future ahead, but Warren was looked at by many as the top TE in the class. This is why the Chicago Bears' choosing to select Loveland over Warren came as a shock to some around the league. And the Colts and their fan base were pumped when they saw Warren still there for them to select at pick 14. The two are going to continue to be tied together as the top two TEs from the 2025 NFL Draft class, and NFL.com's recent article chimed in with who they expect to have the better rookie season.

NFL.com All-Rookie projection team picks Colston Loveland over Tyler Warren at TE

"Standing 6-6, 241 pounds, Loveland is a tight end who runs routes with the fluidity of a wideout. That’s what makes him special. And that’s what made Sam LaPorta a rookie Pro Bowler under Ben Johnson in Detroit, so it stands to reason that Johnson will get the most out of Loveland in Chicago. With Cole Kmet in place to handle traditional in-line work, Johnson can let his beautiful football mind run wild when it comes to scheming up touches for his new toy. The Bears have a lot of mouths to feed in the passing game, but I anticipate this supersized separator will get a fair share of attention from young quarterback Caleb Williams."

The Bears' QB situation is better than the Colts' entering the 2025 season, and it certainly has fewer questions surrounding it. 2024 first overall pick Caleb Williams will be under center with expectations to take a big step forward. The Colts still aren't 100% whether their QB will be Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson, with a competition for the starting job set to take place in training camp.

So I understand why someone might think Loveland is a safer bet to have a better season than Warren. But I think this article also forgets how many different roles Warren had at Penn State and the fact that he isn't going to have nearly as much competition for snaps at his position. The Bears have Cole Kmet, who has been solid in Chicago, and the Colts have three different players who were on their roster during the regular season returning, none of whom were able to even record 200 receiving yards. Warren will be given the keys out of the gate at TE, and I don't think that'll be the case for Loveland.
