Colts’ Anthony Richardson isn’t getting traded. Period.

It has been an interesting preseason as Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson battled for a job. Then he made the roster. Still, trade winds have continued to blow. However, Richardson isn’t getting traded, period, according to a post on X by Stephen Holder.

“On Anthony Richardson Sr., (Chris) Ballard says, unequivocally, he WILL remain on the Colts’ roster.”

That’s a strong endorsement from the Colts’ general manager. Richardson was selected No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has played in only 17 games because of injuries. Notably, his career completion percentage is a grotesque 50.6. But the Colts aren’t willing to part with the 6-foot-4, 244-pounder.

Richardson made a trade request earlier this year. But the trade market apparently wasn’t robust. Entering the preseason, it still looked like Richardson could be traded. But he played well enough to earn a roster spot.

One thing the Colts understand is the need to have a backup plan. Starter Daniel Jones is returning from an Achilles injury, so there are no guarantees there. And that matters, according to a post on X by James Boyd.

“#Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds, asked how he weighs Anthony Richardson Sr.’s trade request versus maintaining QB depth: ‘I think you take care of your own team first. We want to have three (QBs) that can play. So, if he’s one of them, he’s gonna be here.’ ”

Maybe the Colts organization is still the best place for Richardson, according to The Athletic.

“The best scenario for Richardson was always to stay with the Colts,” Ted Nguyen wrote. “No system in the league fits his skill set better, and he would need time to learn another system. Richardson is still just 24 and is immensely talented.

“With Jones’ injury history, there will always be a chance the Colts will have to go back to Richardson. If that time comes, he has to be ready to take advantage of it after such a productive offseason.”
