The Indianapolis Colts have officially given up on Anthony Richardson.
They met with the former No. 4 pick and his camp and agreed that it would be best for both parties to move on from one another. That makes sense, given that they're likely to pursue Daniel Jones in free agency with a long-term deal, but it's still a major admission of failure from the front office.
Even so, it might take a while before the Colts pull the plug on him. According to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, there's not much of a market for his services.
"I’d be surprised if the Colts get much back for Anthony Richardson," Breer wrote. "I also think his eye injury is going to require closer inspection by any interested team."
NFL Network insider Cameron Wolfe reported that there was mutual interest between Richardson and the Minnesota Vikings. They reportedly want to bring in some competition for J.J. McCarthy, who also struggled mightily last season.
However, that doesn't mean they're willing to give up valuable draft assets to make a run at a player who's still pretty raw and would be another reclamation project.
Richardson's physical traits are undeniable. He might be the most athletic dual-threat quarterback prospect of all time.
That said, he's only made 28 starts between college and the pros, and with a history of injuries and reports of a questionable feel for the game, the Colts might not be able to get much in return for him.
