Pro Football Talk reported Sunday that the plan is to see whether the 2-4 Colts can improve in their next three games, against the Vikings, Jaguars and Cowboys, before deciding who goes. The trade deadline is Nov. 10, 16 days out.
Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon fired general manager Chris Ballard on Oct. 19, a day after a 26-20 home loss to the previously winless Titans, ABC News reported. Assistant GM Ed Dodds is running personnel for the rest of the year, per ESPN.
The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones reports the Colts want to see what the landscape is like in a few weeks before talking trades, per Bleacher Report.
Tom Pelissero reported that both DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson have drawn strong interest, and that no one on the roster is expected to be untouchable. Both are in the final year of their contracts, which makes them easier to move.
Buckner has already made his mood clear. After the Titans loss he said he was “sick and tired of the same song and dance every year,” per Yahoo Sports. Bleacher Report floated a reunion in San Francisco for Buckner and the Packers as a possible fit for Nelson. Those are the writer’s guesses, not reports.
Taylor signed a two-year, $44 million extension this offseason, per Pro Football Talk. He’d bring back the biggest return of the three, but Bleacher Report noted that moving him would leave an already thin group of skill players even thinner.
Jones named the Vikings and Giants as possible suitors.
Minnesota is 5-0 with Aaron Jones starting. New York’s backfield is unsettled: the Giants released Najee Harris on Tuesday, and Cam Skattebo is expected to reclaim the starting job Sunday, per RotoWire.
The Colts also owe the Jets their 2027 first-round pick to finish off the Sauce Gardner trade, Bleacher Report noted. That’s my inference, not theirs, but it’s an obvious reason extra draft capital would be tempting.
The schedule isn’t friendly. Indianapolis faces an unbeaten Minnesota first. Quarterback Daniel Jones has six interceptions to four touchdowns this season. Three games, then a decision.
