As Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper noted, Indianapolis Colts fans showered star running back Jonathan Taylor with "MVP" chants as he recorded three touchdowns for a fourth game this season in Indianapolis' 38-14 blowout win over the Tennessee Titans that improved the Colts to 7-1 on Sunday.
While speaking with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Taylor touched upon how the Colts signing quarterback Daniel Jones in the offseason helped the AFC South side become the biggest positive surprise of the ongoing campaign.
"When he first got here, it seemed like he had the playbook for six months already," Taylor said about Jones. "So during (organized team activities), during the summer, we were able to, not blow past any parts of the playbook, but we had a lot of time to work on intricate checks and things that were going along with our scheme. I think now when defenses throw stuff at us, we are able to recall those reps that we got in the offseason and be able to execute at a high level."
While Taylor's modesty is admirable, there's no question that he has emerged as the most important offensive player for a team that continues to look like a legitimate Super Bowl contender. ESPN stats show that Taylor began Monday leading the NFL with 850 rushing yards and 143 carries on the season. Per StatMuse, he also leads the league with 14 total scrimmage touchdowns and 1,056 total yards from scrimmage.
Taylor's top highlight-reel moment of Sunday's win involved the 26-year-old rushing for an 80-yard score on Indianapolis' first offensive play of the third quarter:

During his chat with Breer, Taylor credited his teammates for plowing the road on that play.
"Those plays right there that people love, it’s usually the wideouts, it’s the tight ends, it’s the backside receiver getting a block," Taylor explained. "That’s why we’ve been able to be so explosive — because everyone is fighting and digging for one another. For the running backs, 'Can you sell a really great fake, to pull one or two people in the opposite direction?' We’re all playing for one another."
As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Taylor as the betting favorite at -225 odds to claim the Offensive Player of the Year Award for this season. He'll look to add to his impressive resume when Indianapolis plays at the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3) on Nov. 2.
On Monday, ESPN BET had the Colts as 3.5-point favorites for that matchup.
