Colts HC Shane Steichen said the team isn’t considering benching QB Daniel Jones after Sunday’s loss.
Jones threw one interception and posted a 52.8 QBR in a loss to the undefeated Vikings, and QB Anthony Richardson Sr. was recently cited for marijuana possession.
It now appears as though both Jones and Steichen are on the hot seat.
“Because I got a ton of faith in Daniel,” Steichen said, via James Boyd of TheAthletic.com. “The game plan today was to go in and run the football. Obviously, at the end he had the interception, and that happens in football.”
Jones, 29, was selected by the Giants with the No. 6 overall pick out of Duke in the 2019 NFL Draft. He finished the final year of his four-year, $25,664,056 rookie contract that included a $16,684,768 signing bonus.
He tested the market as a free agent, signed with the Colts, then re-signed with them on a two-year, $88 million extension in March.
In 2026, Jones has appeared in seven games for the Colts, completing 59 percent of his passes for 1,398 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
We’ll have more on the Colts and Jones as the news is available.
