Per Tyler Haughn of Fox59 News, Colts QB Anthony Richardson has been charged with allegedly having marijuana in his possession in Carmel, Indiana.
Per court documents obtained by Fox59, Richardson faces a misdemeanor charge for possession of marijuana, which was officially filed on October 19th. Officers conducted a traffic stop on October 12th when they immediately smelled the odor of marijuana.
Richardson admitted he did smoke in the car to avoid doing so in front of his kids, and also said he had a small amount in the car, per Fox59. His initial hearing was waived and online records show a bench trial is scheduled for January 4th, 2027.
The annual SOA test by the NFL no longer tests for marijuana, but the substance is not legal in Indiana at this time.
The Colts issued the following statement about Richardson, per Joel A. Erickson:
“We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Richardson, 24, declared for the draft following his redshirt sophomore season in 2022 and his first as a full-time starter at Florida. The Colts selected him with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.
He signed a four-year, $36,874,031 contract with a $23,817,477 signing bonus and is now set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
Richardson underwent season-ending shoulder surgery to repair his AC joint after going down in Week 5 of his rookie year. He then missed significant time in 2025 due to an eye injury.
In 2025, Richardson appeared in two games and completed one of his two pass attempts for nine yards.
