The Week 4 matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Rams is shaping up as a battle of attrition, with both sides managing injuries to several key starters.

The Colts opened their first practice report of the week with six starters listed. Cornerback Kenny Moore, initially believed to be nursing a calf issue, is instead dealing with an Achilles injury, head coach Shane Steichen clarified. “I don’t believe injured reserve is needed,” Steichen said, though Moore’s availability remains uncertain.
Wide receiver Alec Pierce is still in the league’s concussion protocol and did not practice Wednesday. Should Pierce remain sidelined, rookie AD Mitchell is expected to step into a larger role in the passing game.
Right guard Matt Goncalves was also absent, spotted in a walking boot due to a toe injury. His participation later in the week will be a key indicator for Sunday’s outlook. Meanwhile, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, one of the Colts’ defensive leaders, was held out with a back injury. Though Buckner rarely misses time, his Thursday status will be closely monitored. Punter Rigoberto Sanchez (personal) and cornerback Xavien Howard (rest) also did not participate.
The Rams, too, are navigating their own injury hurdles. Sean McVay confirmed that wideout Davante Adams (hamstring) and right tackle Rob Havenstein (ankle) will not practice Wednesday, while left guard Steve Avila will be limited.
“LG Steve Avila will be limited in practice today. Rob Havenstein (ankle) and Davante Adams (hamstring) won’t practice today,” McVay told reporters, via Adam Grosbard of the Orange County Register.
Avila, sidelined since spraining his ankle in Week 1, is expected to take “about half the reps,” according to Greg Beacham of the Associated Press. Nate Atkins of The Athletic called it “a good sign” after two weeks off, but his game status remains unclear.
Adams, meanwhile, remains the focal point. The veteran receiver has touchdowns in back-to-back weeks and ranks 11th among wideouts in fantasy scoring, but he faces a stiff Colts secondary that has not allowed a 100-yard receiver all season.
Both teams are dealing with significant injuries as they prepare for Sunday’s contest. The Colts’ defensive front could be shorthanded without Buckner, while the Rams continue to manage the health of Adams and their offensive line. Availability in the coming days will likely shape how each side attacks this pivotal matchup.
