he Indianapolis Colts have released starting kicker Matt Gay . Two years ago, Indianapolis agreed to a four-year, $22.5 million contract with Gay, who was coming off two excellent seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.

Gay did not have quite as much success with the Indianapolis Colts. He converted below 85% of his field goal attempts in each of two seasons with the Colts.

Gay, a six-year NFL veteran, has made 85.5% of field goal attempts and 96.3% of extra points in his NFL career. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers originally drafted Gay with a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He made a career-low 77.1% of his field goal attempts in 2019 with Tampa Bay.

Gay is immediately one of the top available kickers in the NFL. He converted over 93% of his field goals from 2021-2022 with the Rams.

Gay has a strong leg. He's made over half of his career field goal attempts over 50 yards and has a career long of 58 yards.

Now, the Colts will look for options at kicker. Indianapolis currently has kicker Spencer Shrader on their roster. Shrader went five of five on field goals (long of 45 yards) in 2024 and made all nine of his extra point attempts. However, he bounced around the league and played with three different teams, so Indianapolis will likely bring in more competition and could select a kicker in the 2025 NFL draft.
