Colts To Release QB Easton Stick

Indianapolis managed to retain Daniel Jones this offseason, working out a two-year deal shortly after the transition tag was used to avoid a trip to free agency in his case. The team also has Anthony Richardson and Riley Leonard in the fold. Those two have been competing for the backup throughout training camp.

While it remains to be seen how Richardson in particular will be handled (given his looming status as a trade candidate but a passer few teams have shown interest in), Stick being let go comes as little surprise. The 30-year-old provided depth through camp and the preseason, but he has made just six appearances – and only four starts – at the NFL level during the regular season. Each of those came when Stick was a member of the Chargers.

After his run in Los Angeles came to an end, Stick joined the Falcons last spring. The former fifth-rounder did not survive roster cuts ahead of Week 1, but he remained in place with Atlanta by joining the practice squad. Stick spent time on the active roster but did not see any game action. He now faces an uncertain future once again.

Stick was scheduled to carry a cap charge of $1.08MM in 2026 prior to this move. None of his compensation was guaranteed, though, so the Colts will save that amount without taking on any dead money charges. Attention will now turn to the question of whether or not Indianapolis will carry three quarterbacks on the active roster. The team’s choice on that front will no doubt heavily influence Stick’s chances of landing a spot on the Colts’ taxi squad.
