In the Colts vs. Steelers matchup, Aaron Rodgers made Indianapolis’ defense look as bad as possible in Pittsburgh’s 34-22 victory . The veteran quarterback exposed nearly every weakness on the Colts’ defensive side of the ball, as Pittsburgh consistently found ways to exploit Indianapolis throughout the contest. The loss leaves Shane Steichen and his coaching staff facing serious questions as the Colts look to regroup next week.

For Indianapolis, this loss goes beyond the final score. The Colts fell to 2-3 on the season, putting themselves in a difficult position as they attempt to keep pace in the AFC South. Jacksonville remains a major factor in the division race, while Houston continues to push toward contention. Every loss matters in a division where the margin for error is shrinking.

Indianapolis cannot afford to let one disappointing afternoon become a larger losing stretch. The Colts have an opportunity to respond next week against the winless Tennessee Titans, who enter the matchup at 0-5. On paper, this presents a favorable opportunity to get back on track. However, Sunday’s performance demonstrated that facing a struggling opponent will not automatically solve the problems plaguing this team.

The Colts must take this loss on the chin and recognize what went wrong. The defense needs to become more disciplined, the coaching staff must find answers, and the entire team needs to demonstrate that it can recover from adversity. If Indianapolis hopes to remain competitive in the AFC South, next week’s matchup must be about more than securing another win. It must be about proving that this team can correct its mistakes before they become season-defining problems.

Coaching Malpractice

There is plenty to criticize about Indianapolis’ performance, but the coaching decisions deserve particular scrutiny. Throughout the contest, Shane Steichen’s offense had opportunities to finish drives with touchdowns. Instead, the Colts repeatedly relied on their prolific kicker, Spencer Shrader, to put points on the board.

To Shrader’s credit, he delivered an outstanding performance. The Colts kicker went a perfect 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts, including a long of 58 yards. His accuracy kept Indianapolis in the fight and gave the offense something to show for its efforts when drives failed to produce touchdowns.

However, relying on field goals is a difficult way to keep pace with an offense capable of consistently putting points on the board. Shrader did his job, but Indianapolis needed more from the unit responsible for getting the ball into the end zone. When a kicker converts every opportunity, and the team still loses by 12 points, the offense and coaching staff must examine why those possessions failed to produce touchdowns.

That is where Steichen’s decision-making becomes part of the conversation. Field goals are valuable, particularly from long range, but they cannot consistently substitute for touchdowns against a productive opponent. Indianapolis needed to find ways to turn promising possessions into seven points instead of settling for three.

Of course, not every failed red-zone trip falls on the head coach. Execution, play design, quarterback decisions, and defensive pressure all influence the outcome of a drive. Still, Steichen is responsible for putting his players in the best position to succeed. When the offense struggles to finish drives, questions about the coaching approach are inevitable.

The Colts cannot expect Shrader to bail them out every week. His perfect afternoon should be viewed as one of the few positives from an otherwise frustrating performance, not as evidence that the offensive approach was good enough. Indianapolis needs to turn its scoring opportunities into touchdowns if it wants to compete with teams that can punish mistakes.

Aaron Rodgers Exposes Indianapolis’ Defensive Weaknesses

While the Colts’ offensive struggles deserve attention, the defense was arguably the more concerning part of Sunday’s loss. Rodgers and the Steelers offense proved too much for an inconsistent Indianapolis unit, which struggled to provide the stops necessary to give its offense a realistic chance of catching up.

For a team hoping to compete for the AFC South title, defensive inconsistency is a serious problem. Indianapolis cannot expect its offense to overcome every mistake, especially when its opponent can capitalize on defensive breakdowns. Even a productive offensive performance can be undermined when the opposing quarterback consistently finds opportunities to move the ball.

Rodgers’ experience makes those mistakes particularly costly. A veteran quarterback does not need an opposing defense to collapse on every snap. He needs opportunities to recognize weaknesses, exploit favorable matchups, and keep the offense moving. When Indianapolis failed to provide enough resistance, Pittsburgh had the opportunity to dictate the terms of the contest.

The Colts must evaluate how they defended Pittsburgh and determine where adjustments are necessary. Better communication, more consistent pressure, and improved coverage discipline could all become important factors moving forward. However, those improvements must translate to the field. A defense cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes and expect different results.

The coaching staff also needs to determine whether the problems stem from execution, personnel, scheme, or a combination of all three. Blaming one player or one position group will not fix a unit that needs to perform better collectively. Indianapolis must find a way to make opposing offenses work harder for their points.

Indianapolis Must Find a Way Against Tennessee

Colts vs. Steelers makes it so that Indianapolis will be facing an important early-season test. At 2-3, the Colts have little room to continue giving away games if they hope to remain in the AFC South race. Jacksonville and Houston will not simply wait for Indianapolis to correct its problems.

Fortunately, the schedule offers an immediate opportunity to respond. The winless Tennessee Titans are next on the calendar, giving Indianapolis a chance to regain momentum and restore some confidence. Yet the Colts must avoid treating Tennessee’s record as a guarantee of victory.

A win would help stabilize the season, but the manner in which Indianapolis wins will matter just as much. The defense needs to show improvement, the offense must finish drives, and Steichen needs to demonstrate that his staff can make the adjustments necessary to compete.

End Of My Colts Vs. Steelers Rant

The Colts have spent too much time trying to overcome their own mistakes. Against Pittsburgh, Shrader delivered when called upon, but his perfect performance could not make up for the shortcomings elsewhere. Indianapolis needs complementary football, with the offense, defense, and coaching staff all contributing to winning performances.

The Steelers exposed problems that Indianapolis cannot afford to ignore. If the Colts want to turn their season around, they must learn from this defeat and respond with a more complete performance next week. Otherwise, a loss that initially appears manageable could become another step toward a disappointing season.

For Steichen and the Colts, the message is simple: find a way to correct the mistakes, or risk watching the season slip away before the division race reaches its most important stretch.
