Commanders, 76ers trades make for busy Halloween for one owner

Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Commanders principal owner Josh Harris had a busy Halloween.

It was first reported early Tuesday morning that the Sixers finally agreed to a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, sending former MVP guard James Harden (as well as forward P.J. Tucker and center Filip Petrusev) west. Philadelphia reportedly acquired forwards Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington and Kenyon Martin Jr., plus multiple draft picks and a pick swap in the deal.

Roughly 12 hours after Harris and company closed a monthslong effort to ship off Harden, the Commanders made their first big move ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.

Following days, if not weeks, of heavy rumors, Washington moved star defensive lineman Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick. Soon after, the Commanders dealt another star defensive lineman in former AP Defensive Rookie of the Year Chase Young.

The 2020 Pro Bowler was sent from the nation's capital to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick, as head coach Kyle Shanahan's crew gears up for a possible Super Bowl run.

Harris was part of an investment group that bought the Sixers in 2011. The Commanders were sold to Harris in July.

With the NFL deadline now passed and Harden on his way out of town, the businessman can expect a quieter night on Tuesday, depending on how many trick-or-treaters show up on his doorstep.
