Commanders fans finally get clarity as injury update ends major concern

As the Washington Commanders prepare to open their 2025 NFL regular season opener against the New York Giants, they must be as healthy as possible. Specifically, reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year quarterback Jayden Daniels will need his full array of weapons available as he begins his sophomore campaign.

Washington has spent much of the offseason operating with a limited wide receiver room. Second-team All-Pro Terry McLaurin notably did not participate in any activities while holding out for a new contract, which he was ultimately granted. Additionally, Noah Brown was carted off the field during minicamp and did not play in any of the Commanders' preseason games.

Brown has remained listed on the injury report throughout this week. But on Friday, some good news was delivered regarding his status.

Noah Brown is all systems go for Commanders despite sitting out Friday practice

Brown did not participate in Friday's final practice, which was not a promising sign for his availability. But it turns out he was sitting out for rest purposes, and will be a full go for Week 1 per Zach Selby from the team's website.

Cornerback Jonathan Jones was additionally rested, but is also set to play. Except for right guard Sam Cosmi, who will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list after suffering a torn ACL in the Commanders' divisional round win over the Detroit Lions, Washington has no known injury absences at the moment.

Brown was a late signing last offseason, joining the Commanders after the Houston Texans released him during final roster cuts. Before that, he spent his first six NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, who drafted him in the seventh round in 2017. He was seldom used during his first five campaigns and did not play at all due to injury in 2019, but the Ohio State product broke out in 2022 with 43 receptions for 555 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

In 2024, Brown accounted for 35 receptions for 453 receiving yards and one touchdown before a kidney injury ended his season against the Tennessee Titans. His lone score, of course, was Washington's memorable game-winning Hail Mary against the Chicago Bears.

After trading for veteran Deebo Samuel Sr. and drafting rookie Jaylin Lane, Brown won't be expected to carry the same load that he did for much of last season, when he was tasked with being Washington's No. 2 WR opposite McLaurin. But he'll still be a key contributor, and the Commanders will be glad to have his services on Sunday.
