Commanders HC Ron Rivera: Terry McLaurin contract talks 'headed in the right direction'

The Washington Commanders have opened up their mandatory minicamp and star wide receiver Terry McLaurin isn't in attendance as he awaits a possible contract extension. Per Ben Standig of The Athletic , according to Commanders head coach Ron Rivera, McLaurin is the only player skipping minicamp on Tuesday.

However, Rivera has expressed optimism for much of the offseason that a deal will eventually get done. The 60-year-old coach reiterated his opinion on Tuesday.

Washington's third-round pick in 2019, McLaurin has collected 222 receptions for 3,090 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns in his career, posting back-to-back seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards.

Other standout wideouts including Davante Adams, A.J. Brown, Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill and most recently, Cooper Kupp and Hunter Renfrow, have signed massive contracts this offseason, but McLaurin and DK Metcalf are still waiting.
