Commanders linked to wild trade for collapsing All-Pro (and fans are baffled)

It's certainly not been dull for the Washington Commanders when it comes to the trade market this offseason. But the latest wild rumor is a step too far.

Adam Peters landed both wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. and left tackle Laremy Tunsil with the team's Super Bowl window open. This came after acquiring Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore before the 2024 deadline, which didn't reap immediate rewards thanks in no small part to a lingering hamstring issue that's now fully healed.

It's left the Commanders short of disposable assets if another trade opportunity comes along. That didn't stop one NFL analyst from linking Washington with a daring raid for a collapsing All-Pro past the peak of his powers.

Commanders inexplicably linked with daring trade for Mark Andrews

After Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network revealed that teams were calling the Baltimore Ravens regarding the availability of Mark Andrews, Anthony Palacios from Last Word on Sports touted the Commanders as an ideal landing spot. Something the analyst believes could give quarterback Jayden Daniels another dependable target in the passing game if the price is right.

[Mark] Andrews is probably no longer a starter in this league anymore, and it might be helpful to pair with one of the most dangerous tight ends in the NFC, since both of these athletes pairing up would be a problem for opposing defenses this upcoming season. [Jayden] Daniels thrives throwing the football when slinging it to his tight ends, and Andrews teaming with Ertz sounds like a total nightmare for any defense that wants to contain both of them. The Commanders don’t need another pass-catcher, but it would solidify their chances of a Super Bowl appearance.Anthony Palacios

This left fans on social media baffled. Andrews was among the league's best once upon a time. However, those days are long gone, and this is not a position of need for the Commanders.

Their tight-end unit looks strong with sufficient depth. Zach Ertz and blocking specialist John Bates will lead the charge again. More is expected from 2024 second-round pick Ben Sinnott in Year 2 of his professional career. Reports emerging from Washington's offseason preparations suggest Colson Yankoff is also coming along nicely.

Barring any drastic change in circumstances, this foursome will be what the Commanders move forward with next season. Trading for Andrews is an asinine notion with no substance attached. And the Ravens aren't going to let him leave, given his strong chemistry with signal-caller Lamar Jackson.

Chalk this up to speculation and nothing more.
