Commanders Make Official Roster Decision On Terry McLaurin

Terry McLaurin didn't report for the start of training camp on Tuesday, a clear sign that his contract dispute with the Washington Commanders is far from over.

McLaurin is on the final year of his three-year, $68.2 million contract. He wants to receive a lucrative extension, especially after hauling in 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Commanders last season.

Are the Commanders willing to meet McLaurin's demands? Well, general manager Adam Peters let the NFL world know that he intends on keeping McLaurin around for the long haul.

"It's the nature of our business," Peters said. "You'd like to get these things done quicker, but it doesn't always happen that way. ... You're dealing with a really good player and really good person and you never lose sight of that and make sure every conversation you have is very straightforward and in good faith and keeping that mindset throughout ... understanding our goal is to get a deal done. Whatever happens along the way just understand he's a great player and we want to keep him here."

While the two sides continue to handle negotiations, the Commanders have placed McLaurin on the Reserve/Did Not Report list.

McLaurin could be fined $50,000 for each day missed at training camp. That might be worth it to him if he gets the contract extension he's looking for.

"With how the market is today, it conveys what guys of my caliber are deserving of," McLaurin told reporters.

McLaurin has been the No. 1 wideout for the Commanders since 2019. It's imperative he's on the field Week 1 when they take on the New York Giants
