Commanders' 'Smartest' Offseason Move An Easy Choice
(Kyle Terada-Imagn Images)

The Washington Commanders haven't made the wholesale changes and moves they did a year ago when Dan Quinn and Adam Peters first took over, but this season, they've been more surgical with their signings.

Bobby Wagner, Zach Ertz, and Marcus Mariota were all retained, while five-time Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil and All-Pro receiver Deebo Samuel were both traded for to boost Kilff Kingsbury's offense.

While there hasn't been the sheer number of free agency signings this time around, when picking the Commanders' smartest move, for Bleacher Report, it is relatively easy - Deebo.

"The Commanders haven't been shy about pushing their chips into the middle of the table, either," Bleacher Report writes. "They made a pair of big-name trades, including obtaining veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. from the San Francisco 49ers for a Day 3 pick. Samuel’s 2024 numbers were relatively disappointing, but he didn’t forget how to play football. With Terry McLaurin opposite him and an offensive coordinator in Kliff Kingsbury who will undoubtedly scheme ways to get the rock in Samuel’s hands, a big-time bounce-back could be forthcoming."

Samuel gives Daniels a genuine No. 2 weapon alongside Terry McLaurin, who was the Commanders' passing game last season.

Yes, Deebo comes to the nation's capital looking to prove himself somewhat after a down season by his high standards, and what he could be in Kingsbury's offense is an enticing thought.

Given Washington's want to run the ball, something Samuel is sublime at when at full flight, coupled with the short passing game and YAC potential, if Deebo can stay healthy, then the roughly $17 million for one season will seem like a bargain for the Commanders.

Is Deebo Washington's smartest offseason decision? We think so, and it isn't particularly close.
