There were collective gasps of concern and almost disbelief when Noah Brown was dealt another cruel injury scare on Day 2 of the Washington Commanders' annual mandatory minicamp. Head coach Dan Quinn provided clarification on the subject after further examinations from the medical team.
And it remains a wait-and-see situation.
Brown's endured nothing but bad fortune since his Hail Mary miracle catch to beat the Chicago Bears. The physically imposing wide receiver's 2024 campaign ended abruptly after he suffered a serious internal injury that resulted in kidney surgery against the Tennessee Titans. Fortunately for the pass-catcher, he'd earned enough good graces from the organization to get another one-year extension.
Although the Commanders strengthened the wide receiver room this offseason, Brown was expected to play an important role once again. That plunged into doubt after he went down following a catch on Wednesday.
Brown hobbled off the field and threw his helmet in frustration. He was checked over, and the coaching staff thought things were serious enough to send out the cart. Those in attendance also noted that the former seventh-round pick let out a scream, born out of frustration or pain, on his way into Washington's training facility in Ashburn.
Everyone was anxiously awaiting Brown's prognosis. As it turned out, developments are ongoing.
Quinn revealed during his media availability after the final day of mandatory minicamp that Brown was set for an MRI scan on an undisclosed issue this afternoon (Thursday). The head coach didn't want to speculate about the magnitude of the issue or a potential timeline without more information, which is understandable. Even so, it does nothing to quash the trepidation.
The fact that Brown is getting an MRI could be precautionary. It could also be because the medical team wants to find out the severity of the complication. Either way, things should become clearer in the coming hours before something gets officially confirmed one way or another.
Until then, fans should stay patient and hope for a positive update when the time comes.
