Commanders Unique Deebo Role Gets Cryptic Prediction from Quinn

The Washington Commanders were coming off a superb 2024 season that saw the franchise make an NFC Championship game, and like a well-run organization, they weren't content; they wanted more.

General manager Adam Peters was proactive in free agency and traded for San Francisco 49ers All-Pro Deebo Samuel to give Jayden Daniels another weapon alongside Terry McLaurin.

With Samuel's ability as a receiver and runner, seeing him dominate with the 49ers, it is reasonable to think that the Commanders and Kliff Kingsbury will use him in a similar way, right?

Well, head coach Dan Quinn, when speaking on the Rich Eisen Show, stated things will be similar, but with a twist.

"I would say similar, but I wouldn't say the same," Quinn said rather cryptically. "That's kind of what's fun about it, adding new people in, the nice part about when you do trade for somebody or in the draft as well, you find these unique things that a player has, and man, does he have them. Kliff [Kingsbury] and Brian [Johnson] and the guys have certainly been up extra late in the offseason of finding unique ways to get the ball into that man's hand."

Samuel now gives a Commanders offense that was one of the best in football, another genuine game-winner, whether that be as a receiver or runner.

Considering how potent the Washington run game was last season (149.1, ranked 4th in the NFL), now we add Samuel to that group. While he won't be a genuine running back, although he has been known to do it, we imagine that offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury will be getting quite creative in how he uses Deebo.

It was seen as a big, Super Bowl-winning move by the Commanders, and when you make a splash like that, you need to involve that player as much as you can.

And with Deebo, you can get him the balls in various ways, which makes him such a dangerous proposition to defend, and in turn, makes Washington difficult to stop.
