Commanders vs. Terry McLaurin Conflict Gets Bad News Update

There haven't been too many sour moments for the Washington Commanders since Dan Quinn took over and Jayden Daniels started playing football well beyond his years.

But this Terry McLaurin contract saga, the longer it goes, the more we shift a little nervously in our seats. Now, we think a deal will get done, the question is how much of the bridge will be burnt in the process?

The Commanders are all in on 2025 and part of that is having "Scary Terry" as a key member of the offense, but after missing mandatory minicamp as he searches for a new deal, some aren't sure what the future holds for one of the franchise's most consistent players.

For Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, in answering a fan question about McLaurin's contract, he thinks the two sides are still a fair way away from a deal.

"They have a lot of work to do," Breer wrote. "I’d expect that work will pick up again when the league comes back from break in a few weeks. But it’s still not in a great place. So we’ll see what happens—there’s plenty of time to get something done."

There is time, and as we saw with Dak Prescott last season, his deal didn't get done until the day before Week 1.

Now, Washington wouldn't like that to happen with McLaurin, so it makes sense to sit down and thrash out a deal. There are reports that Terry's new contract will be at least $30 million APY, putting him in the upper echelon of receivers in football.

No doubt McLaurin deserves it, but things haven't been going smoothly in this negotiation, and while things "aren't in a great place," there is time to sort something out.

And as heavy-handed as it sounds, Washington's Super Bowl hopes might rest on it.
