Connecting dots on potential Davante Adams-Aaron Rodgers reunion

Amid a disastrous season, the Raiders lowered their pirate flag and hoisted up a white one late Tuesday, firing HC Josh McDaniels, GM Dave Ziegler and offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi. With a complete rebuild seemingly on the horizon, Las Vegas (3-5) could soon look to offload another piece of their team — star wide receiver Davante Adams.

Adams has not been shy about voicing his frustrations with his role in Las Vegas' offense, and few could blame him. The All-Pro wideout has just 14 catches for 142 yards and no touchdowns over his past four games. Against the Detroit Lions in Week 8, he reeled in one catch for 11 yards despite beating the defense deep twice on what should've been walk-in touchdowns.

The Raiders remained adamant about not trading Adams by Tuesday's deadline, despite a reported discussion earlier in the month of a possible change in scenery for the 30-year-old, per Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz. Following the team's removal of top brass, however, an offseason trade involving Adams appears far more likely.

Among the multitude of teams that will inevitably attempt to acquire Adams after the season, the Jets appear to be one of the best fits for him. If New York acquired Adams, the six-time Pro Bowler would be reunited with former teammate Aaron Rodgers, whom he caught passes from for eight years in Green Bay.

A possible Adams-Rodgers reunion has already gained steam, as the Jets inquired about the former's availability before the trade deadline, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. Based on Adams' recent comments on "The Rich Eisen Show," it appears he'd also welcome a reunion with Rodgers.

"Ever since we haven’t been teammates, our relationship has gotten stronger," Adams said. "We try to keep a pretty good line of communication, just because we both obviously miss each other a lot."

The Jets may not have been able to secure Adams' talents this season, but the offseason is only a few months away. New York would be wise to circle back to Las Vegas when that time comes.
