A construction worker died at the site of the Denver Broncos' training facility on Monday.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a "medical emergency" at the new facility's construction site around 8:20 p.m. Coworkers found the worker unresponsive in a confined ceiling area.

"South Metro Fire Rescue crews responded and used tools to gain access to the worker. Despite rescue efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene," the Sheriff's Office wrote on Tuesday afternoon. "The cause and manner of death remain under investigation by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office."

The Broncos released a statement shortly after the Sheriff's announcement, per Zac Stevens of DNVR Broncos.

“The Denver Broncos are heartbroken to learn a subcontractor working on our new training center passed away Monday while on-site," the team said. "We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the individual’s family, coworkers and friends during this difficult time."

The Broncos announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art, 205,000-square-foot facility in 2023. The $175 million project was scheduled to be completed "in a matter of days," per the Denver Post's Parker Gabriel.

Turner Construction told Gabriel that construction will stop to cooperate with the investigation.

"This is a heartbreaking loss for the worker's family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and all those impacted by this tragedy," the construction company said.
