The Cleveland Browns already have a two-man race for the starting quarterback job.
New head coach Todd Monken made it loud and clear that there would be a competition for the QB1 spot, and he has no allegiances to any candidate.
However, their QB room might not be done yet. Even if they didn't add anyone in the first wave of free agency, Eva Geithem of Sports Illustrated believes they could make a run at a veteran.
In her latest column, she chose Kirk Cousins as a potential target for GM Andrew Berry.
“He’d be a great mentor for presumed Raiders No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza. If Cousins wants a starting gig next season, the Cardinals and Browns might be his best options at this point, even if the Cardinals are currently set to roll with Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew while the Browns have Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson,” Geithem wrote.
The Browns were tangled up in rumors to sign Cousins last offseason, given his ties to Kevin Stefanski.
The Atlanta Falcons never released him and, ironically, they cut ties with him after hiring Stefanski, the very same coach who would've brought him to Cleveland.
While not at the peak of his powers, Cousins had a decent campaign in Atlanta, completing 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns and five picks in 10 games (eight starts), according to Football Reference.
He'd certainly be an upgrade over Sanders and Watson, and while it looks like this is Sanders' job to lose right now, Monken may want to spice things up with a proven veteran to compete for the job.
