Could Lions make coaching changes after missing playoffs?

The Detroit Lions entered Week 17 with slim chances of making the postseason.

Those hopes came to an end with a 23-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in front of 66,874 fans at U.S. Bank Stadium. The defeat dropped Detroit to 8-8 before getting ready to play the NFC North-leading Chicago Bears to end the regular season.

During his postgame news conference, Lions head coach Dan Campbell suggested changes could be made in the offseason after missing the playoffs.

"I'm going to be looking at a lot," Campbell said, via ESPN. "I'm going to be looking at a lot of things because I do not like being home for the playoffs. And I know our guys don't either.

"And there again, whenever you lose, it takes a village. Everybody's involved, including myself. So, I'm always going to look at myself first."

The Detroit Lions need a better offensive coordinator

The Lions had big shoes to fill in the offseason, losing offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to the Bears. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn left for the New York Jets.

Detroit's new defensive coordinator, Kelvin Sheppard, and offensive coordinator John Morton have underperformed on a team that entered the season winning back-to-back divisional titles.

Morton's offense has especially been a problem in Detroit. The Lions rushed 30 times for 68 yards on Thursday night. Quarterback Jared Goff threw for 197 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He lost three fumbles.

The six turnovers were the cause for the lopsided Lions' loss despite Vikings undrafted rookie quarterback Max Brosmer finishing with only 51 yards passing and taking seven sacks. (Minnesota had three yards net passing and 161 total yards.)

Campbell hinted that things weren't alright with Morton in charge when he took over play-calling duties from the first-year offensive coordinator in early November.

The Lions had enough talent to win the division and should have at least made the playoffs via the wild card. Morton is the easy scapegoat, but it'll be interesting to see if Campbell makes more staff changes after an underwhelming performance late in the season.
